Right To Privacy
After a women’s health doctor has a charged encounter with a volatile protester, she faces a moral dilemma she couldn't imagine.
RIGHT TO PRIVACY is an original short narrative film which premiered in September 2024. The story is personal, based on something that happened years ago to my father, an Ob-Gyn, when a vocal anti-abortion protester continued to protest at his office even after bringing in her own daughter for an abortion. At that time, no one could have foreseen where we are now, with abortion illegal in many states. Nevertheless, women from both sides of the political aisle still need and seek abortions.
The story of an anti-abortion protester coming into a clinic for abortion services is more common than one would think, but rarely told. In our correspondence with Caren Spruch, Planned Parenthood‚ Director of Arts and Entertainment Engagement, Caren wrote: "I've heard stories from our Planned Parenthood staff about anti-abortion protesters coming to their centers, but don't think I've ever seen that story on screen!"
Art can open conversations. As a writer committed to telling women's stories in all of their complexity, my hope is that RIGHT TO PRIVACY will spur thoughtful dialogue from all sides, illuminating the personal stakes of societal division.
